Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2016

This year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este not only saw the presence of some of the most beautiful cars from this past century, but it was also the perfect place to catch a first glimpse of a few modern masterpieces such as the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato, the Bugatti Vision GT, the Alpine Vision Concept and many others.

Having accepted an invitation by Rolls-Royce to come and enjoy a sunny day on the shores of Lake Como for the Concorso d’Eleganza, we arrived early on in the morning with our Aston Martin Rapide after a nice ride through the Swiss Alps and were greeted by a lovely 2016 Lagonda Taraf and 2017 Aston Martin DB11 immediately as we entered the parking area. This is part of what makes these occasions so special. The parking lots are almost as interesting as what’s on display during the event.

BMW was celebrating their 100th anniversary and we sure weren’t disappointed when we saw the 328 Hommage and the brand new 2002 Hommage sitting there under a perfect blue sky reminding us the of 2 of the most iconic BMWs in their 100 year history.

As soon as we made it onto the official Event Site, our eyes started shining and our jaws dropping. BMW was celebrating their 100th anniversary and we sure weren’t disappointed when we saw the 328 Hommage and the brand new 2002 Hommage sitting there under a perfect blue sky reminding us the of 2 of the most iconic BMWs in their 100 year history.

After our lunch, we headed out to the Rolls-Royce display where we were invited to go for a test drive on the narrow curvy roads alongside the magnificent Lake Como. Our pick of the day was the Wraith, only because the Dawn was already being driven and we had so much more to see during this day. I must admit that there are few places that would be more beautiful to test drive such cars.

After finishing the test drive, it was finally time to go have a look at all the timeless classics ranging from special edition Ferraris owned by l’Avvocato, a Berton Lamborghini, of course there was a Miura there to celebrate the 50th anniversary and so many pre-war wonders!

The day ended with the majestic car parade and some glasses of champagne before heading back over the alps for a pleasant drive home looking forward to the 2017 edition and all the wonders that will be seen in a years time!
